You don't need too many cat toys in the beginning. It would also be unreasonable to stock up completely now, since cats are very enthusiastic about the respective toys.

Often a ball of paper or a table tennis ball is enough to get your kittens to play. A large selection of toys can be found in specialist shops. Also give your cat an opportunity to hide and explore. A simple cardboard box with a few openings arouses the animal's curiosity and keeps it busy.

Pet crate

You should of course get this equipment before the cats move in, as you will need the box to bring the kitten home. Transport boxes usually have a relatively uniform size (50-60cm x 35-40cm x 35-40cm). When choosing the transport box, you can completely adapt to your taste.

The litter box

The litter box should be at the top of the list. This is already available for little money. The purchase of the litter box also includes a litter box shovel and a small bucket in which you can dispose of the lumps every day. Put the litter box in a place your cat can access 24/7. Since it can also smell unpleasant shortly after the cat has gone to the toilet, it should also be a place where the odor is no longer annoying. Litter boxes with a hood are less odorous, but they are not absolutely odor-proof either. If your cat is used to a litter box with a roof from the previous owner, then you should invest in one again, as the cat has got used to this "privacy" and would certainly be reluctant to do without it. The placement of the litter box in the bathroom is widespread. It is important that the litter box is always in the same place, as the cat will not think of looking for it in another place in the house once it has got used to it.

Toilet litter

When choosing toilet litter, every cat owner has their own preference. Some cat owners swear by lumpy litter, as you can easily remove the lumps here every day and the litter box never gets really dirty. Other owners are convinced of absorbent litter that does not clump, but soaks up liquids. Again, the stool has to be removed from the litter box every day, but the rest is completely emptied about every four weeks and the litter box is filled with completely new litter. To begin with, however, you should use the litter that your kitten is used to. This will make it easier for them to soon become house-trained in your apartment, as they will know the smell and will soon find their way to the toilet. This is even easier if you take a small bag full of the cat litter from your kitten's previous toilet from the breeder or previous owner. Once the cat has got used to it, you can gradually get it used to the new cat litter by mixing it with the new one and increasing the ratio more and more.

In order to familiarize your cat with the scratching post at an early stage, you can buy it before the cat moves in. If a kitten moves in, the purchase can also wait a week or two, as young kittens are not that enthusiastic about scratching posts at first. In addition, the kitten will use the first few days to carefully explore its new home. If, on the other hand, an adult cat moves in, you should usually get the scratching post beforehand, because most adult cats are already used to using the scratching post. If the cat then misses this opportunity to play and scratch, it could leave traces in your home.

When choosing the scratching post, you can completely depend on your budget. The only thing to note here is that scratching posts with only one mast are less stable than those with two or more masts. With a young cat, that doesn't matter. An adult cat, on the other hand, that storms around it, jumps up and down and climbs, could break it at some point. In addition, the scratching posts with several masts are usually provided with one or two extras such as a hammock, hiding places, etc., which could also give your cat a lot of pleasure.

Anyone who is a little technically gifted can also build a very individual scratching post from boards, a trunk, leftover carpet or plush material and sisal. The material is not much cheaper overall than a bought scratching post, but it is fun, you can build the scratching post particularly robust and completely in the style of your interior and create it according to the individual preferences of your cat.

Food bowls

Since cats should be fed both wet and dry food and, like any other animal, need water, three bowls should be purchased. It is up to you which material you choose here. You just shouldn't opt ​​for metal bowls as they could affect the taste of the food. Most cats are so deterred that they will refuse to eat from this bowl. If you opt for bowls made of lightweight material such as plastic, it is helpful if they have a rubber ring on the bottom that prevents them from slipping away when eating / drinking.

Place the bowls on a surface that is easy to clean, as cats like to spill when they eat. In addition, in no case near the litter box. No matter how great the hunger is, no cat will eat next to its toilet
